Galen E. Heckber Jan. 26, 1921 - Oct. 16, 1996 Galen E. Heckber, 75, of Lansdown Court, South Bend, hid., died at 4:03 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16, in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka. He was born on Jan. 26, 1921, in Fort Wayne, Ind., and was a resident of South Bend most of his life.

On June 16, 1951, in South Bend, he married Catherine Zilky. She survives, along with a daughter, Deborah Heckber of Cincinnati, Ohio; a son, John Heckber and his wife, Joyce, of South Bend; his mother, Mabel Heckber of South Bend; a sister, Arlene Niles of Bayonet Point, Fla.; and a brother, Eugene "Bud" Heckber and his wife, Joan, of South Bend. 

Mr. Heckber retired as president and co-owner of Valley Screen Process Company Inc., Mishawaka. Prior to that, he was assistant art director for Drewerys Limited in South Bend. He was a member of Elks Lodge 235, South Bend, and was a sergeant in the Army during World War H.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 18, at Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., South Bend. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., today, in the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Mr. Heckber will be missed by his family and friends.
