Elsye D. (Weinstein) Vodnoy

Elsye D. Vodnoy Aug. 7, 1921 - Nov. 25, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Mrs. Elsye Doris Vodnoy, 94, passed away peacefully at 3:42 am at Heritage Point, Mishawaka. She was born in South Bend on August 7, 1921, and was a lifelong area resident, graduating from Riley High School. She was also a graduate of the American Conservatory of Music, Chicago, where she studied with Louise Robyn.

Her passions were her music and her art; she taught private piano lessons for many years and was a docent at the Snite Museum of Art. She was also a well-known local water color artist who exhibited her work at Temple Beth-El and local galleries. She is the widow of Dr. Bernard E. Vodnoy, who passed away on November 16, 2006.

Mrs. Vodnoy was a member of Temple Beth-El, Temple Sisterhood, Jewish Women International, and was a founding member and longtime president of B'nai B'rith Women and Hadassah. She was a child of Russian immigrants: her parents were the late Abe and Bessie (Katz) Weinstein.

Elsye is survived by her children: Robert (Kayla) Vodnoy of Valparaiso, IN, Daniel (Gail) Vodnoy (a.k.a. Jason Holt) of California, Laurie (Howard Rosencrantz, life partner) Wright of Sarasota, FL, and Shelley (David) Papai of Mishawaka. Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren: Michael (Melinda) Geraghty, Alison (Zachary) Vodnoy Wolf, Sarah (Elon) Altman, Abby Wright, and Brandon and Dillon Holt; as well as her great-grandson, Logan.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am in the chapel at the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka, Rabbi Karen Companez officiating. To send condolences to the family, log on to www.McGannHay.com. Memorial gifts may be made to the Jewish Federation or to the Snite Museum of Art.
