Nancy C. (Simmons) Newell
May 17, 1933 ~ November 11, 2022 (age 89)
Nancy C. Newell, of Mishawaka, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2022 at her home with her daughter by her side at the age of 89. She was born on May 17, 1933 in South Bend to Carl and Cecil (Loy) Simmons. She graduated from Riley high school and moved to Chicago and began working for Illinois Masonic Medical Center in the accounting department, she retired in 1998 after 10 years of service. Nancy returned to South Bend after retirement to be close to her mom and sister. On April 4, 2002 in Mishawaka she was united in marriage to Jack Lewis Newell, who preceded her in death in 2008.
Nancy was a strong independent woman who raised 5 kids on her own. Her heart belonged to her kids and grandkids and loved them dearly, they were what truly made her happy. She enjoyed shopping and going to a good yard sale. She also enjoyed going to bingo or going out to eat. The last 6 out of 7 years she spent with her dear friend, Christopher Esbensen. They would enjoy walking their dogs and spending time together.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Lisa Weddell of Mishawaka, sons, Richard Weddell of Florida, Ted Weddell of Chicago, IL, David Weddell of Carpentersville, IL, and Ray Weddell of Deland, FL, along with 7 grandchildren, Christopher (Melinda), Michael, Kaylyn, Cynthia, Jennifer (Edward), Lance, Brandon Moey and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Cecil, husband, Jack, grandson, Lance Eisele, sister, Sue Bunch and brother, Mark Simmons.
Funeral services for Nancy will be at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Palmer Funeral Home – Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
