SOUTH BEND - Mr. Robert Theodore Northern, who resided on Hartzer Street, South Bend, Indiana, departed from this life at the age of 70 on September 6. Robert was born in South Bend, Indiana, on August 1, 1945, to the late Eugene and Ellen (Cobb) Northern.

 

He graduated from Riley High School in 1963. He also attended Central State University. He then served his country in the United States Air Force for four years and was honorably discharged in 1970 after serving in the Air Force Security Police Squad, Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota. He and Kathy Jo Cannady were married on February 1, 1985.

 

In 2007, he retired as an Electrician following 41 years of service. He was also employed by Dodge Manufacturing Company for several years. Mr. Northern was a member of Electrical Brothers Local Union 153.

 

Among his favorite things to do was cooking, bar-b-queing, reading his Bible, and entertaining. As a member of Faith Apostolic Ministries, he did volunteer work in building the gym and church. He also loved to recruit young Black Americans into the electrical trade.

 

Preceding him in death along with his parents, Eugene and Ellen Northern; were a sister, Betty Lawrence, and a brother, Charles Northern. He leaves to mourn his loss Kathy Jo; three daughters, Kimberly (Tracy) Littlefield and Karla (Tyrece) Harris, both of Los Angeles, California, and Mercedes (Marcus) Guyse, Indianapolis, Indiana; one son, Cornelius Williams, South Bend, Indiana; three step-daughters, Yolanda (Larry) Green and Yvette Jones, both of South Bend, Indiana, and Yvonne Jones, Indianapolis, Indiana; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Gwendolyn Matthews, Allison Herron and Lisa (Ray) Jackson, all of South Bend, Indiana; one brother, Joseph (Jackie) Northern, Anderson, Indiana; his mother-in-law, Faygene Cannady, South Bend, Indiana; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; his best friends, J. T. Williams, Arthur Jones and Jimmy Winters.

 

A special thank you to the Medical Staff of Memorial Hospice and his private duty nurse, Gloria Baker. Funeral services for Mr. Northern will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Faith Apostolic Ministries, with Bishop Eddie Miller officiating.
