Ronald Phillip Schramski

March 9, 1949 ~ September 14, 2021 (age 72)

Ronald Phillip Schramski, 72, passed away at 4pm on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, in the home he built, with his loving family by his side.

Ron was born on March 9, 1949, in South Bend to the late Ernest Jacob and Grace Neoma (Williams) Schramski. Ron was also preceded in death by a sister, Nancy and brother, Randy.

On April 22, 1972, Ron married Joyce (Bogunia), his “hope and treasure,” as he called her.  She survives along with daughter, Jessica (Kenny) Shirley of North Liberty, Ind.; son, Brad (Ann) Schramski of Sanford, Fla.; grandchildren, Maxwell, Neoma, Andrew, Carter, and Katie Claire; and brother, Darrel (Janet) Schramski of Mishawaka, Ind.

Although he lost his mother at an early age, Ron understood the meaning of family, ensuring he always put his first. Besides his “Sweetie,” his children and five grandchildren were the sparkle in his eye, and he loved to share the joys of life with them every chance he could get.

Ron loved his neighbors, extended family and was a good friend to many. He was known, or sometimes unknown, for giving what he had at the time to help anyone out that needed it. And, he was never shy to help anyone understand the truth, whether you wanted to hear it or not.

He wore his staple black hat every day, and loved taking adventures, traveling to the “South House,” exploring the National Parks and historical landmarks. He had a passion for the beauty and peace that God provided to him in nature. He loved to remember times past, and was sure to help his family remember where they came from, too. And, Ron always seemed to have just the thing you needed somewhere in the barns if you’d ask. He would want everyone that surrounded him to “Remember and celebrate the good times,” as he often said.

Ron loved his country and honorably served in the US Navy Seebees in Vietnam, and was a member at American Legion Post 357. He worked at the Public Works Highway Road Commission of South Bend and St. Joseph County.

Visitation will be from 9-11am on Saturday, September 25, 2021, in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, South Bend where a Memorial Mass will begin at 11am.  Burial with Military Honors will follow at Porter Rea Cemetery.

Palmer Funeral Home at the Lakeville Complex is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children with Cancer, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
