Doretha Ann (Wills) Shelton

March 13, 1954 - May 29, 2017

SOUTH BEND - Doretha Ann Shelton was born on March 13, 1954, to the late Willie and Lucille Wills in South Bend, IN. She attended South Bend Community Schools and was a graduate of Riley High School in 1972. At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church where she was a dedicated member and served faithfully as President of the Senior Usher Board and facilitated the Junior Ushers.

She was united in holy matrimony to Tyrone D. Shelton Sr. (T.D.) in July 1985. This union was blessed with four children. Tyrone preceded her in death on August 1, 2007.

Doretha worked as a Benefits Coordinator for Memorial Hospital for 41 years. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and was an avid fan of the television show In the Heat of the Night. Doretha went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 29th, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tyrone (T.D.) Shelton; parents, Willie and Lucille Wills; and two sisters, Elzina Henry and Joyce Stafford.

Her beautiful life will be forever cherished in the lives of her children: Andrea (Roosevelt L. Green, Sr.), Jason Shelton, Tyrone D. Shelton Jr., Erin (Kenny Carter-Wortham), and Erica Shelton, all of South Bend, Indiana; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; five brothers, Charles (Ann) Triplett of Kalamazoo, MI, Sherman (Theresa) Wills of Indianapolis, IN, Herman Wills of South Bend, IN, Larry (Damita) Wills of Mequon, WI, Curtis Wills of Holland, MI, and Phillip (Birgit) Wills of Copperas Cove, TX; and three sisters, Versie English of Jenison, MI, Minnie Wills of South Bend, IN, and Phylis Wills of Houston, TX; along with a host of devoted nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Sweet Home Ministries, with viewing occurring from 10:00 a.m. to 11: 00 a.m. at the church.
