Raymond “Ray” L. Stout, 87, a lifelong resident of South Bend passed away on Monday May 13, 2024 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
Ray was born in South Bend on September 9, 1936 to the late Ernest and Ruth (McGraw) Stout. Ray graduated from Riley High School and went on to work as a Supervisor for Stone Container for 20 years and at RACO for 25 years.
Ray met and married the love of his life Dolores “Dolly” Popielski on October 26, 1957 in South Bend, sharing over 66 years of marriage. Together they had 4 children.
Ray loved the Chicago Cubs, finally witnessing a World Series win in 2016 and Notre Dame football, where he proudly served as an usher for over 43 years. Ray liked to golf and bowl with his 3 sons.
Ray is survived by his wife, Dolly Stout, his children; Jennifer Rumpf of St. Joseph Michigan, John (Janet) Stout of South Bend, Jeff (Stacy) Stout of South Bend, his grandchildren; Greg Rumpf, Tim (Shelly) Rumpf, Aimee (Shawn) Nyikos, Jamie Stout, Jodi (Derek) Albright, Ryan Stout, Rachel Stout, and Justin Stout. Also surviving are 6 great-grandchildren and Ray’s sister; Pam (Pete) Darrow of Granger.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his son; James Stout, his son-in-law David Rumpf, and his brother; Richard Stout.
Visitation for Ray will be held from 2pm-4pm on Thursday May 16, 2024 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend. A funeral service will be held at 4pm at the funeral home.
