SOUTH BEND - Maxine R. Butler, 102 years old, residing in South Bend, IN passed away at 4:15 AM Friday, May 27, 2016 at Southfield Village, South Bend. She was born on September 2, 1913 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Anthony and Anna (Schreyer) Saberniak and remained a lifelong resident. On September 7, 1936 in South Bend, Indiana, Maxine was united in marriage to Roland A. Butler. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1977.

Maxine is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sue Ann and Louis Balbo of Duncan, South Carolina; her son and daughter-in-law, Martin and Judy Butler of South Bend; daughter-in-law, Pat Butler of Granger, seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Maxine was preceded in death by her son, Roland “Pete” Butler and her brother, Martin Saberniak.

Maxine was a member of the first graduating class “1931” of James Whitcomb Riley High School, South Bend. She worked at Robertson's for 15 years, retiring in 1977. Maxine served as a Cub Scout den mother for many years. Maxine was a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church where she was a member of the Rosary Society. She volunteered at St. Joseph County Public Library - River Park Branch.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at St. Monica's Catholic Church, 222 W. Mishawaka Avenue, Mishawaka, IN. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.
