Neil M. Edison, 74, residing in South Bend, passed away at 5:35 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Fountainview Place, Mishawaka following a valiant battle with cancer.

He was born June 4, 1935 in St. Joseph County, IN, the son of Markwood "Chick" & Ruby Flossie (Fryar) Edison and had lived here all of his life.

On June 27, 1959 in Romulus, Michigan, he was united in marriage to Lynn L. Boelter. They observed their 50th anniversary last month. Also surviving is his daughter Gina Edison and her husband Brian Duke of Stanwood, WA, his son, Nick Edison of Bloomington, IN, a granddaughter Morgan Duke-Edison of Stanwood, WA, and brothers Gordon (Margaret) Edison of Bethesda, MD, and Bruce (Nadya) Edison of Kernersville, NC.

Mr. Edison retired from the South Bend Community School Corp. as a Math Teacher, having taught at Nuner Elementary School and Jackson Middle School He also coached basketball at Nuner for ten years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves from 1959-1964. He received his bachelor's in Education from Michigan State University and received his master's from the University of Notre Dame. He was a member of the American Federation of Teachers, Triangle Fraternity, and enjoyed Civil War History.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 18, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend, IN. The Rev Sarah Boelter will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery, South Bend. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
