John Dale Huckins

Riley 1958 John D Huckins

Born: Sun., Jun. 25, 1939

Died: Wed., Nov. 6, 2013

John D. Huckins passed away November 5th at 5:40 p.m. in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka where he had been since October 24 when he suffered a severe stroke. He was born to Robert and Dorisellen Huckins on June 25, 1939. They preceded him in death.

On May 4, 1985, in South Bend he married Marsha Lambright who survives along with three children, Jenny (Spencer) Cecil, Jeff (Stacy) Huckins and Kristin (Mark) Jones; four grandchildren, Lea Cecil, Berk Huckins, Corey and Dylan Jones; one brother, Jay of Mishawaka; and sisters Mary (Paul) Reynolds of Orlando, FL. and Sue (Joe) Bogen of Aurora, IL.

John graduated from Riley High School in 1957. He was on the varsity golf team for all four years of his high school career. In 1956 he was runner up in the City Junior Golf tournament and in 1957 the Riley team came in second in the State. After graduating in 1957 he attended IU for a year and then joined the family business, Huckins Tool and Die. John owned and operated Champion Tool & Engineering in Mishawaka since 1975. He was a kind and caring boss and good businessman. His ability to entertain customers was legendary. Dinners at Pat's Pub on Friday nights before ND home games were appreciated by his customers far and wide.

John had a passion for golf and was a member of South Bend Country Club "all his life". He followed in the Huckins tradition of excellent golf and socializing at the club. He was an advocate of Golf etiquette and he was a true gentleman on the course and off. Yearly golf trips with his son and sons-in-law were the highlight of his later years, and his grandchildren will certainly miss their “PaPa”.

Per John's request, cremation has taken place. There will be a Memorial Service on Sunday, November 10 at 3 PM at Granger Community Church, Elkhart Campus. 2701 E. Bristol St., Elkhart, IN. 46514.
