Bruce A. McMillen

September 3, 1940 ~ September 11, 2023 (age 83)

Bruce A. McMillen, 83, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023. He was born on September 3, 1940 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Joe Donnell and Isabelle Margaret (Burns) McMillen. On September 3, 1988 Bruce married Beverly A. Cortier, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Debbie McMillen-Heritz of Osceola, Indiana, one son, Brian (Jill) McMillen of Anderson, Indiana, four grandchildren, Jeffrey Heritz, Devin McMillen, Gavin McMillen and Chelsea (Alex) Quinn, four great-grandchildren, Jason, Stella, Walter, and Colton and many nieces and nephews.  Along with his parents, Bruce was also preceded in death by one son, Ben A. McMillen and three brothers, William, Robert, and Donnell.

Bruce was a Riley High graduate and an Air Force Veteran.  He was accepted to Indiana State Police Academy as Trooper Specialist, promoted to Sergeant grade 4, where he was charged with firearms instructor duty, SWAT, explosive ordinance disposal, special investigations and Scuba Diving.  He was in charge of school bus and truck inspections for northern Indiana for 22 yrs.  He held a multi-engine pilot/instructor license and was an Indiana real estate and certified level II appraiser with Dillman and McMillen.  Bruce owned Donnell Inc. 1980-96 inert landfill, was on the South Bend Community School Board 1986-96, and owned McMillen Enterprises Inc -Mac's Gun Shop 1997-2000.  He also was a part of ACM Environmentals and Florida State Fire/Arson Investigations College.  Indiana State Attorney General Office Bureau of Investigations. To present day he was a St. Joseph County Sherriff deputy at the Mishawaka courthouse.  He enjoyed challenging discussions and studying the Bible.

To know the depths of this man's golden heart was to look into the portal of his soul. No one will ever come close to the momentous generosity he showed to others.  His walk thru life was determinant and purposeful.  Truly humbled we depart a jewel from the earth that the Lord has brought home to righteousness.  Loving him was a gift.  Until when my love.

 A visitation will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023 from 3:00 pm EDT until 8:00 pm EDT in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr. South Bend, IN. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am EDT on Saturday, September 16, 2023 in the funeral home with visitation for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Posey Chapel Cemetery.
