Michelle Overton (Pruett) - Class Of 1981

March 24, 1963 - July 14, 2017

CLOVERDALE, VA - Michelle “Shellie” (Overton) Pruett returned home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Friday, July 14, 2017 at her home in Cloverdale, VA. She was 54.

She is survived by her two children, Michael (Emily) Dant and Kristina (Terrell) Dant of South Bend; her mother, Thyra (Charlie) Sallows of South Bend; her brothers, Jack Overton II, Robert Overton, and Richard Overton of South Bend and Larry (Patricia) Overton of Berrien Center, MI; her sister, Rhonda Shoemaker of Mishawaka; her nephews, Zack Overton of South Bend and Michael Shoemaker of Mishawaka; her nieces, Susan (Thomas) Shoemaker and Shelby Overton of South Bend and Carrie Shoemaker of Mishawaka; her uncles, David (Marilyn) Witt of South Bend and Michael Witt of Mena, Arkansas; and her aunt, Marsha (Bruce) Rufer of South Bend. She will be missed by her beloved dog, Riley, her loving cats, Jorge and Mollie, and many more beloved family members and friends.

She was reunited with her father, Jack N. Overton, and her uncle, Thomas (Connie) Witt, who preceded her in death.

Michelle was a 1980 graduate of Riley High School and went on to study at Indiana University South Bend.

A floral clerk at Kroger in South Bend for 16 years, Michelle was a lover of flowers, plants, and all living things. She kept several pets including bunnies, cats, and dogs.

Michelle relocated to Troutville, VA in 1999, where she was a loving mother and homemaker. Her love extended beyond her own children, and she was regarded as a second mom to many.

Among many other wonderful things, Michelle will be remembered for her compassionate heart, unwavering tenacity and perseverance, and witty sense of humor.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home located at 23421 State Road 23 in South Bend, Indiana on Sunday, August 20. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm (EST) with a celebration service beginning at 4:00 pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hanley and Sons Funeral Home or to Pet Refuge, to honor Michelle's love of animals.
