Kenneth Horn

Dec. 31, 1917 - July 30, 2018

MISHAWAKA, IN - Kenneth Horn, 100, of Mishawaka, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, July 30. Ken was a gracious, kind, humble, and joyful man, never one to complain or ask for help. Reading was his hobby and when it was available, he was the first in the family to get a Kindle and would read well into the night. Ken was born on December 31, 1917 to the late Joseph and Lulu Horn. After graduating from Riley High School, he traveled throughout the Southern States and upon returning home, he was drafted into the United States Army and was one of the first to leave South Bend for his service in World War II. While he was serving in New Caldonia, Ken made the decision to convert to Catholicism for his future wife and family. On December 1, 1945, he married Helen Meixel in St. Joseph Parrish in Mishawaka, where both of them were very active in the church community. She preceded him in death after 59 years of marriage. Ken was the founder of Litho Arts in Mishawaka.

Ken is survived by his children: Pat (Tom) Arata and grandchildren, James (Jennifer) Arata and Ryan (Jeannie) Groth, and great-grandchild, Allison; and Tom (Sharon) Horn and grandchildren, Christopher, Adam, Patrick, and Lauren. His granddaughter, Kathy Arata Groth preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister, Nancy McIntyre and brother, B. Lee Horn. A sister, Edna preceded him in death. Our family wishes to thank the nursing staff, who became our extended family at St. Paul's, for the love and care they have shown to Dad. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial donations in Ken's name may do so to Center for Hospice Care or St. Joseph Church in Mishawaka. Arrangements have been made through Bubb Funeral Chapel.

A Mass of Resurrection will be on Wednesday, August 1, in St. Joseph Church in Mishawaka, with Fr. Jacob Meyer officiating, at 11:00am, with visitation one hour prior to the service. He will be laid to rest beside Helen in Fairview Cemetery in a private committal service.
