John Nafrady Jan. 26, 1929 - Apr. 12, 2015 MISHAWAKA - John Nafrady passed away in his home in Mishawaka, In. On April 12, 2015. John was born in South Bend, Indiana on January 26, 1929 to Joseph and Mary Nafrady who preceded him in death. John is survived by his wife, Mary Nafrady of 61 years who also has been his loving and devoted wife throughout his life. John and Mary were married in December 1953.

Preceding him in death are his parents Joseph and Mary Nafrady, brothers Joseph and Robert Nafrady and sister Rose Alice Rolko.

Surviving is a step brother Michael Nafrady who resides in Texas. John is also survived by his son Bryan (Sharon) Nafrady of Elkhart, Indiana and daughter Barbara (Richard) Smith of Plano, Texas. In addition John has 5 grandchildren Tara Towner, Ryan Smith, Anthony Nafrady, Justin Smith and Nicole Hyde. At the time of his passing he has two great-grandchildren, Elijah and Eden Towner and one soon Elliott Hyde. J

ohn grew up near the west side of South Bend where he graduated from Riley High School. There he played football and achieved all conference status.

After graduation he joined the reserves and was station at Fort Hood for his term of duty. In 1953 John made a decision to turn his life over to God and accepted him as his Lord and Savior. That changed the course of his life forever. Serving his Lord since then he was able to impact the lives of so many toward Christ. He was an active member of the Church of the Nazarene in both South Bend as well as Palm Springs, California. There he served as Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and on the board for many years. As an employee John worked for Mutual of Omaha as an insurance sales person for over 40 years where he was recognized as one of the top salesmen for many years. His achievement earned him several leadership awards.

John loved the outdoors and loved to fish and hunt. His greatest love however was softball and played in competitive leagues until age 70. Loved by his family and so many others, John will be missed but we know he is passing to a greater blessing.

Zahoran Funeral Home has been entrusted with funeral arrangements. A celebration of life will be held at South Bend church of Nazarene 51690 N. Ironwood Dr. South Bend, IN on Saturday April 18, 2015 at 3:00pm. The family would like to express their appreciation to Grace Hospice and Fresenius Medical Clinic for their loving and compassionate support during these last years. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Grace Hospice and National Kidney Foundation.
