Syvilla J (Lankford) Duford

SOUTH BEND - Syvilla J. (Lankford) DuFord, 81, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away Friday evening, January 26 at Hospice House, Elkhart, Indiana.

Syvilla was born on March 23, 1936 in South Bend to the late Orville G. Lankford and Wilma M. (Paulk) Lankford and has been a lifelong resident of this area, attending South Bend Riley High School.

On December 22, 1956 in South Bend, she was united in marriage to Richard F. DuFord, who survives. Syvilla worked as a Traffic Manager with WHME-TV and as secretary at Calvary Temple Church. She previously attended Calvary Temple Church and had most recently attended Community Baptist Church.

“Grammy” enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, especially “Saturday night cards with friends.” She loved to read and do puzzles. She also enjoyed camping and traveling to see friends in Colorado. Syvilla is survived by her husband, Richard F. DuFord of South Bend; two daughters, Beth (Stephen) Fry of Mishawaka and Amy (Jeff) Secor of South Bend; and nine grandchildren, Rachel DuFord, Joshua Fry, Jacob Fry, Emily Fry, Megan Fry, Trenton Secor, Dane Secor, Aubrey Secor, and Lillie Secor. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard L. DuFord on March 23, 1998; and her two brothers, Orville Lankford, Jr. and Devon Lankford.

Memorial Services for Syvilla J. DuFord will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Palmer Funeral Home Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN 46614 with three hours of visitation prior to services (11:00 AM - 2:00 PM). Pastor Joe Fant will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674. Palmer Funeral Home Guisinger Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
