John Arthur Paulson

SOUTH BEND, IN - John Arthur Paulson passed into God's loving arms on 11/16/2018 at the South Bend Center for Hospice Care after living at the Sanctuary at St. Paul's for the past nine years. Born in South Bend Indiana to Daniel O. and Rowena (Stull) Paulson, John's parents preceded him in death as did his sisters, Rowena Paulson and Helen (Ken) Parker; and his brother, Howard Paulson. John has been a lifelong resident of South Bend where he attended Riley High School and received his B.S. Degree in Business Administration from Indiana University at Bloomington, Indiana.

During WWII, John served three years in the United States Air Corps in the 437th Troop Carrier Group which towed gliders across the beaches of Normandy on D-day. After the war John became Secretary of the former Municipal Supply Company, a family owned business, and later became the Senior Purchasing Agent for Bendix in Mishawaka.

In 1945, John married his high school sweetheart, Mona Steele who survives him along with their three sons and their families: John H. Paulson and his wife Susan Klymkowsky of Columbus, OH; Mark Steele Paulson and his wife Chela of San Diego, CA; and Matthew Paulson and his wife Susan of Algonquin, IL. Also surviving him are four grandchildren, John B. Paulson, Emily Davis, Paloma Bravence, and Matthew A. Paulson. John also has five great-grandchildren, Isabella and John Paulson, Lucia and Anthony Bravence, and Braylon Davis.

John thoroughly enjoyed flying and all things aviation as a second career spanning 32 years. He was an Instrument rated Commercial pilot and a flight instructor who shared his passion of flying with many through his association with Business Flyers, Post and King Aviation, and the Boy Scouts Aviation Explorer program.
