Harriet (Gottron) Clynch

Clynch, Harriet Gottron Harriet died Monday, Dec. 18, 2006. She was 87, born in Columbus, Ohio, on April 16, 1919, and lived in South Bend, Ind., from 1925 until 1950. She lived briefly in Canton, Ohio, in St. Louis, and since 1954, lived in Baton Rouge.

She graduated with honors in 1937 from James Whitcomb Riley High School, and later attended Baton Rouge College of Commerce and acquired class credits from St. Mary's College from Ohio State-Akron and from St. Louis University. She earned a Gregg College certificate from the Gregg School in Chicago, as well as certain credits from LSU.

She was a former member of Alpha Iota sorority and a 35-year member of the Capital City Business & Professional Women's Club of Baton Rouge, having served as committee chairman of all committees and as president, first and second vice president, secretary and treasurer of the organization and as district director of District IV of the Louisiana State Business and Professional Women's Clubs. She joined the staff of Landry & Landry attorneys in 1957 and became a member of Baton Rouge Legal Secretaries Association, from which she received the paralegal designation. In January 2002, she resigned from the law firm. She was also classified as a PLS (professional legal secretary).

On June 23, 1945, she was married to Robert F. Clynch, who predeceased her in 1985. She became a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in 1971 and served as a member of the Altar Guild and on various committees throughout the years. Visitation at Welsh Funeral Home, 6700 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, Dec. 20, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Visitation at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Canon R. Brien Koehler. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Camille D. Clynch; niece, Christa A. Hornbaker; nephews, Michael R. Clynch, Dr. Edward J. Clynch and Dr. James R. Clynch; and cousin, Carol Bell, husband Mike and their children, Sara, Jennifer and Amanda. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Hospice of Baton Rouge.
