Verna G. (Bowman) Lott

GRANGER - Verna G. Lott of Granger passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2012, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health. Verna was born on February 1, 1921, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to Herbert Jacob Bowman and Edna Catherine Shively Bowman, and had remained a lifelong resident of this area.

As the former Verna Bowman, she graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School in 1939 and attended St. Mary's College.

She married J. Reed Lott on April 29, 1944, in South Bend. They shared 61 years of marriage and commitment to each other. She was a devoted daughter, loving wife, nurturing mother, and a dear friend to many. Verna loved caring for her family and home, gardening, cooking, knitting, reading, and playing golf. Verna is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Kathleen A. Lutz of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; and son, Charles H. Lott of Granger; two step-grandchildren, Kimberly A. Mills and Steven M. Lutz, both of Fishers, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Reed; sisters, Catherine Sturm of Michigan City, Indiana, Jeanette Moulton of Orange, Connecticut, and Doris Daniel of South Bend; as well as one brother, Herbert F. Bowman of Sun City, Arizona.

Special thanks are given to the compassionate caregivers and nurses who have helped to care for Verna in her home during the last several years of her life.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 3:00 pm Wednesday, March 7, 2012, in Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Private services will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Verna may be made to Alzheimer's & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana, 922 E. Colfax Avenue, South Bend, IN 46617; or to the American Heart Association of Northern Indiana, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674.
