Arthur James "Jim" Proctor

Arthur James "Jim" Proctor, 87, died peacefully January 1, 2014. Jim was born in Bremen, Indiana, graduated from South Bend Riley High School and Purdue University, and served in the Navy in World War II.

Jim had an interesting and varied career in agriculture and transportation serving veterans, the B&O Railroad and the State of Indiana. He wrote major transportation legislation and was awarded the title of Sagamore of the Wabash. Jim gave generously of his time to many causes including The Indiana State Historical Society, Y's Men's Club, Boy Scouts and First Friends Meeting.

Jim was a gardener, outdoorsman, a traveler and lover of Studebakers. He will be remembered for his curiosity, sense of adventure, the love he showed his family, his smile and his gentle spirit.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley; his sons, Kris and Dean and his grandchildren, Patrick and Erin.

Memorial contributions may be made to The First Friends Meeting Meditation Woods. A public memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan - Washington Park North .
