EAST RIDGE, TN - Beloved daughter, Kathleen M. Burkus, 46, formerly of South Bend, passed away on Friday, May 27th, in her home. Kathy was born on December 18, 1964, in South Bend, to James J. and Barbara A. (Pozsgai) Burkus. She was preceded in death by her father.
Surviving are her mother and stepfather, Barbara (Michael) Norris of South Bend. Kathy had numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, most of whom reside in this area.
She graduated from Riley High School.
She attended Granger Community Church and Vineyard Church while living in South Bend. For the last four years, Kathy has resided in East Ridge, TN. She loved poetry and animals. Kathy was happiest when she was working with animals. Kathy will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She worked at various office jobs in the medical field, including the South Bend Clinic. Kathy was a caring, sensitive person who loved her family, animals, nature, and time in the sun. Although quiet, Kathy expressed herself best through her poetry.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 2nd, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be on Friday, June 3rd, in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Kathy's cousin, The Reverend Doctor John Paul Salay, will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Woodland, IN. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Diabetes Association of St. Joseph County, 6910 N. Main Street, Granger, IN 46530; or to South Bend Animal Care and Control, 105 S. Olive Street, South Bend, IN 46619.
