Joann was born in Anderson, IN to Herbert and Clara Jeffery (Renfrow) on December 29, 1935. She went to school at South Bend Riley High School, where she met and later married Frederick Tiedge on June 12, 1950 in Louisville, KY. Later, after divorcing Frederick she met Edward Landaw, Sr. who was her life partner for over 25 years. Joann lived most of her life in Indiana until 2009 when she moved to Florida for her retirement.

Over the years Joann wore many hats and acquired varied and interesting skills. She worked for Ball Band (Uniroyal) in the Pilot Plant, she was self-employed and owner of Joann's Junque antique shop and online store, as well as a Trucking and Car Crushing Company responsible for some of the early efforts at recycling scrap metal that gained the attention of the governor of Iowa. She became Office Manager of Yellow Cab Company in South Bend at a time when women were not readily promoted to positions of trust, leadership, and business management – leading to an article featuring Joann in the South Bend Tribune. She also invested in, and personally managed several rental properties.

Joann was a lifetime member of The Order of the Eastern Star. She was a lifelong Christian with a strong, personal faith. Joann enjoyed time with her family and friends, and had many hobbies, such as a passion for gardening, coin collecting, stamp collecting, sewing, crocheting and knitting, cooking, genealogy, traveling, and shopping for bargains at flea markets and sales. One of her favorite activities was hosting the largest annual yard sale on the block, and in later years she took an active interest in politics.

Joann is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Stiebritz, of Jupiter, FL, Susan (Rick) Lyon, of South Bend, IN, and one son, Steven (Donna) Tiedge, of Deltona, FL, as well as 10 grandchildren – Amy (Chad) Smith, Valerie (Jeremy) Delagrange, Diane Grzeskowiak, Jessica (Tim) Ullery, Joshua Grzeskowiak, Joseph Irvine, Joshua (Lacey) Irvine, Justin Irvine, Jennifer Irvine, Steffany Jo Tiedge, 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandson, along with many "adopted" children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
