Robert E. Hamilton

ELKHART - Robert E. Hamilton Jr., affectionately known as "Poochie," 52, of Garfield Street in Elkhart, IN, passed way at 7:59 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2007, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. He was born on July 2, 1955, to the late Robert E. Hamilton Sr. and Queen E. Hamilton in South Bend, IN. Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Hamilton Sr., and grandfather, Albert Johnson.

On October 18, 1997, in Elkhart, he married Patricia Tolbert in Elkhart. Robert is survived by his wife, Patricia; two stepdaughters, Holoa and Sondia Tolbert of Elkhart, IN; his mother, Queen Hamilton; five sisters, Linda J. Thomas, Pamela K. Dozier, Sondia T. Hamilton and Michelle A. Hamilton, all of South Bend, and Jan D. Jenkins (Melvin) of Columbus, Georgia; a brother, Michael D. Hamilton of South Bend; and his paternal grandmother, Ida Lee Johnson of South Bend. He leaves behind three nephews, Demetrius (Monie) Irby and Mikol Dozier of South Bend, and Marques (Stacey) Ivey of Aurora, Colorado; three nieces, Sarita (Gary) Dozier, Shevlin Thomas and Siglenda, all of South Bend; and a host of grandnephews and grandnieces.

He was a graduate of Riley High School in 1975.

After graduation he lived in Denver, Colorado, for 20 years where he was employed by Firestone. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, gourmet cooking, grilling, camping, skiing, telling jokes, playing cards, and just having a good time. His presence will be sorely missed.

Robert's life will be celebrated on Friday, August 3, 2007, in the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, 802 W. Garfield Ave., Elkhart, IN 46516. The family will receive friends beginning at noon and the celebration of Robert E. Hamilton Jr.'s life will be at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin Street in Elkhart.
