Ellen M. (Johnson) Hummer
June 2, 1915 - July 31, 2011
MISHAWAKA - Ellen M. Hummer, 96, residing in Mishawaka, IN, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2011, at Hospice House of South Bend. Ellen was born on June 2, 1915, in South Bend, to the late Albert and Anna Johnson, and had remained a lifelong resident of the area. On November 24, 1936, in Rochester, IN, Ellen was united in marriage to Carl Ernest Hummer and shared 58 years of marriage. Carl preceded her in death on February 26, 1994.
Ellen is survived by three daughters, Sharon (Gene) Stoner of Granger, Barbara Schlemmer of South Bend and Carol Hummer of Mishawaka. She is also survived by three grandsons, Marcus Schlemmer of NY, Paul (Susan) Schlemmer of NY and Geno Stoner of CA.
Three sisters, Inez Johnson, Mildred Johnson and Pearl Moore, and two brothers, Clarence Johnson and George Johnson, all preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hummer received her schooling at Riley High School, South Bend.
She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star Osceola Chapter 598. Ellen was a longtime member of First Church of Christ Scientist, Boston, MA, and a devoted member of First Church of Christ Scientist, Mishawaka, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
Funeral services and Eastern Star services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 5, 2011, at Palmer Funeral Home- River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 AM until time of services on Friday in the funeral home.
