Thomas L. Mihail

Thomas Leon "Tom" Mihail March 27, 1968 - Feb. 2, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Thomas Leon "Tom" Mihail, 46, of South Bend, went to be in the hands of the Lord on Monday, February 2, 2015, in South Bend. He was surrounded by the loving prayers and comfort of his parents, Brunette Mihail and Andy Mihail. Also present were his loving mom, Christine Mihail, and longtime girlfriend, Karla Milbourn. He was born on March 27, 1968, in Athens, Greece, but spent most of his life in South Bend, IN.

Tom was diagnosed with cancer in July of 2014. In spite of struggles with cancer, he remained strong in body and spirit. The family thanks all the wonderful people who blessed Tom and his family with their prayers during this difficult journey. God's presence was felt in so many ways.

Tom attended Riley High School and Ivy Tech.

He was a welder by trade but planned a new career by completing courses in robotics maintenance. He was currently attending Ivy Tech to earn an associate degree. His family was so proud of his diligence and effort to improve his life. He last attended class on Wednesday, January 28, in spite of his pain. The family he created at Ivy Tech gave him comfort and purpose in life. Tom's greatest love was his daughter, Kaley Mihail, age 19. She is a Freshman at Purdue University North Central and visited often to comfort and support her dad and Nana. Tom was most happy when he saw her smile.

Tom's only brother, Andrew Mihail (MA), and Tom have many joyful memories of growing up in the country in their childhood home on Miami Road in South Bend and visiting Warren Dunes. Andrew blessed Tom with a niece, Samantha Mihail, age 13 (MA). Tom is lovingly survived by his uncle, Tom (Eva) Mihail in Merrillville, IN. He loved his Bazzoni family including Uncle Leon Bazzoni and Aunt Sarah Bazzoni, and cousins, John (Rebecca) Bazzoni, Valerie (Todd) Law, David (Whitney) Bazzoni and Michael Bazzoni. They blessed him with delightful and loving children: Alex and Eva Bazzoni, Anna and Nicholas Bazzoni, Michael and Brooke Law. Their summers were spent happily enjoying Uncle Leon and Aunt Sarah's cottages on Sechrist Lake near North Webster, IN.

Tom taught many of the young children to fish and bait hooks with worms-and take off a few fish. Tom was most happy at the cottage with his family. He loved the outdoors including hunting and fishing. Tom was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leon and Mary Bazzoni, Eve Mihail, Tom Anton, and his young cousin, Alex Bazzoni. Tom was raised in the Greek Orthodox Church, South Bend. The last few years he attended the Serbian Orthodox Church, South Bend.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 pm Friday, February 6, 2015, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a Trisagion service will be held at 6:30 pm. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 2 pm Saturday, February 7, 2015, at St. Peter and Paul Serbian Orthodox Church, with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Joe's Kids of Warsaw.

The family wishes to thank the many kind and caring doctors and staff that tended to Tom and his family and the Center for Hospice Care. They would also like to thank Tom's devoted friends who kept his spirits high. Tom is at peace and without pain but will be dearly missed. To send online condolences, please visit www.kaniewski.com.
