Kathileen Capeller Obituary

Kathileen D. Capeller

Sept. 6, 1947 - Feb. 3, 2017

SPOKANE, WA - Kathileen D. (Van Noy) Capeller of Spokane, Washington, passed unexpectedly at her home on February 3, 2017. She is greatly missed. Kathy was born September 6, 1947, in Plymouth, Indiana, the eldest child of Glen and Dorothy Van Noy. She was raised in nearby South Bend and graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School in 1965. At age 23, she relocated to Los Angeles, California, to work for Ralph M. Parsons Oil Company and to attend Sawyer Business College. Dedication and service to family and others was a priority in Kathy's life. Her long-term dream of being married and starting a family was realized when she married Bodo Capeller in June 1971. They welcomed their only child, Konrad, the following year. While living in Los Angeles, Kathy lived a life of service and dedication through volunteering with her church, her child's school, and with the PTA. Kathy was especially proud of her involvement in various high-profile Los Angeles school issues in the late 1970s including busing and school safety, and often represented her PTA in front of the school board and in front of print and TV media. Kathy and her family relocated to Spokane in 1991. She continued to grow her circle of friends through her employment with various Spokane companies including Avista, Inland Communications, and Ecova, and personally through her interests in crafts, gardening, and social groups. She and her husband enjoyed traveling various parts of the United States, as well as touring Mexico, Germany, Paris, and Belgium. Kathy loved people and made friends easily. She was often teased about learning life histories from complete strangers while waiting in line at the DMV! She had a great sense of humor and liked to make people laugh. One of her greatest pleasures was being asked to emcee employee social events. Retirement didn't stop Kathy from serving her family, as she dutifully acted as a dedicated caregiver for her own aged mother until her passing last year. Kathileen is survived by her husband of 45 years, Bodo, her son Konrad, and daughter-in-law, Heather, and grandsons, Kaleb and Collin Capeller, all of Spokane, Washington. She is also survived by her sister, Jackie (Lester) Fishkin of Portland, Oregon, and nephew, Neil (Nicole) Kennedy, and great-nieces, Samantha and Gwendolyn Kennedy of Vernonia, OR. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Waltraud (Joshi) Markgraf of Cottbus, Germany, as well as an aunt, uncle, numerous cousins, and many, many friends across the country. Cremation services will be handled by Ball and Dodd Funeral Home with a celebration of life held at a later time to be determined.
