Mary C. "Ewald" Reynolds
December 24, 1937 ~ February 12, 2026
Mary C. Reynolds, 88 years old, peacefully and gracefully passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at The Haven by the Bend in South Bend, Indiana.
Mary was born on December 24, 1937 in Benton Harbor, MI to the late Martin and Margaret (Dietle) Ewald. In 1988, Mary married Jack Reynolds, who preceded her in death. Mary is also preceded by her brothers, Martin Ewald and John Ewald.
Left to cherish their memory of Mary are her children, Linda (Robert) Helmer, Julie (Patrick) Dowling, Karen (Scott Kellogg) Knight, Jennifer (Gary Young) Knight; her grandchildren, Chelsea Jankowski, Brianna (Colton Davis) Dowling, Trace (Hallie) Dowling, Neal Dowling, Clare (Kevin) Kaufhold, and Abigail (Sam Skelley) Helmer; one great-grandson, Emmett Jankowski; brothers, Thomas (Jackie) Ewald, and William Ewald; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mary graduated from Riley High School in 1955 and went on to earn her nursing degree from Holy Cross Central School of Nursing at Notre Dame in September, 1958. Deeply devoted to her faith, she regularly attended and volunteered at church and participated in Bible study. Mary found joy in quilting, sewing, square dancing, and traveling throughout the United States, and she generously gave her time as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
The family is grateful for the love, care and respect Mary received at The Haven by the Bend and Southern Care Hospice.
Visitation for Mary will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday, February 22, 2026 with a Rosary to be prayed at 3:30 pm, all at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend. Mary will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
