Richard ""Uncle Dick" Ross

April 8, 1931 ~ March 6, 2025 (age 93)

 

Richard “Uncle Dick” Ross, 93, passed away at home on Thursday, March 06, 2025.

Richard was born on April 08, 1931 in South Bend to the late Frank Ross and Blanche Spychalski. On November 10, 1951, Richard married the love of his life, MaryAnn (Petrowski) Ross. She preceded him in death on August 21, 2023. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Dan, Larry, Gene, and Art Ross, and sister-in-law, Lorraine Wojcik.

Left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Denise (Joseph) Richards, Kathy (Mike) Sutton, Annie (Rick) Eaton, Mary (Chris) Hay, and Jennifer (Richard) Marcotte. Grandchildren, Lindsey (Tony) Eaton, Evan Eaton, Lauren (Brendan Fox) Eaton, Nicole Sailor, Helio Gois, Jessica (Art) Hay, Nicholas Hay, Ruby Hay, Windsor (Chelsea) Hay, Amber (Max) Marcotte, Matthew (Kailey) Marcotte, Tell (Emily Argersinger) Sutton. Great-grandchildren, Dexter, Harper, Kaiden, and Mia, Malcolm, Rosemary, and Sienna, Adrian, MJ and Ariyah, Allissa (Macon) and Rachel, Luke, Arielle and Elise. Sister, Dolores Tompkins, Sisters-in-law, Joan Petrowski and Angie Bajer, and several nieces and nephews.

Dick proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was an Alumni of Bethel and Indiana Universities. Dick worked for the SBCSC for 33 years. He started as a teacher, then retired as a principal. Dick was a parishioner of St. Casimir Catholic Church and member of the Married Men's Club. He was also a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Bowlers Country Club, and the American Legion Post 284. In his younger years he was an Eagle Scout. Dick was a coach and mentor for young children. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, camping, fishing, and hiking. More than anything else, he loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, with a rosary being prayed at 5:30 pm, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at St. Joseph Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at St. Casimir Catholic Church, with visitation 1 hour prior at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
