James Paul Hansen, Sr.
July 26, 1948 ~ September 14, 2025
James P. Hansen Sr., 77, of South Bend passed away on Sunday September 14, 2025, at his home.
Jim was born on July 26, 1948, in South Bend to the late Willard and Evelyn (Frederickson) Hansen.
Jim graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School in 1966. After graduation he joined the United States Marine Corps. As a Marine he proudly served his country as a Marine Corps Armorer. After his military duty he spent many years of hard work in management roles for different companies. He started his career at Allied Products then moved to Sibleys Foundry. He then spent years managing Hoosier Box and Skid. He ended his supervisor days working at United Conveyor Corporation where he retired in 2016.
Throughout his life he was passionate about photography, spending time with family and helping others. In 1981 he was born again and found his personal relationship with Jesus which led him to studying the bible and bringing others to the Lord. He loved watching movies, but old westerns were his favorite. He also was a big history buff. He will always be remembered for telling a great story and his boisterous laugh. After retirement he took up the hobby of putt putt golf which he enjoyed. What kept him company each day was his beloved cats.
Jim is survived by his children: James (Melissa) Hansen and Jennifer (Mike Mathes) Bisig, and the children’s mother, Barbara Scheetz. His grandchildren: Scott(Mary) Szczechowski, Josh Bisig, Dillyn(Conor) McNamara, Hannah Bisig, Logan Hansen, Payton Hansen and Aiden Hansen. His great grandchildren: Penelope and Sydney Szczechowski. His siblings also survive; Carol (John) Everly, Nancy Nevelle, and Eric Hansen.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Janice Baum.
Visitation for Jim will be held from 11am-1pm on Monday September 22, 2025, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend. A funeral service will begin at 1pm conducted by a minister of the Apostolic Christian Church of South Bend. Burial will follow with military honors at Highland Cemetery, South Bend.
