Daniel Strong

Daniel A. Strong

June 24, 1948 ~ February 16, 2025 (age 76)

Daniel Allen Strong, of South Bend, passed into eternal rest in the late evening of Sunday, February 16, 2025, in his home at the age of 76.

Daniel was born on June 24, 1948, to the late Robert T. and Helen L. (Smith) Strong, in South Bend.  After graduating from Riley High School, Daniel enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam Era, as well as attending DeVry University in Chicago.  Shortly after coming home from the Navy, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Hobor, on September 26, 1970, in South Bend.  They remained in the area raising their two beautiful children.

While Daniel was employed by WSBT for his entire career ranging from a cameraman, then engineer, to a computer graphics designer, outside working hours he did every thing but that. There is little to find at his home with Carolyn that he did not renovate or completely build himself. Every room inside and every area outside was touched by his capable hands. From construction and electrical to car mechanics and gardening, Daniel did it all. He enjoyed the outdoors, finding relaxation meticulously tending to his expansive gardens and pond. He also enjoyed road trips, sitting at the bluff at Silver Beach, and fishing.

Daniel may have been short on words, but he was overflowing with details. His knowledge, competence, and devotion poured into every task and project he took.

Daniel loved listening to Jimmy Fortune music and looked forward to playing Hallmark Christmas movies during the holidays….or maybe months more than that. His greatest joy and love were being surrounded by his family and his beloved dogs.

Daniel is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Carolyn Strong of South Bend, along with their children, Tiffany R. (Phil) Strong-Hruska and Douglas A. (Rebecca) Strong, both of South Bend.  He was a proud Grampie to Hunter J. Strong and Rylan B. Strong-Hruska.

Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20th in the Hanley and Sons Funeral Home, 23421 S. R. 23, South Bend, IN 46614, where there will be a funeral service held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21.  He will be laid to rest in Porter Rea Cemetery in North Liberty, following the service.

Memorial contributions to honor Daniel’s life may be made to a Veteran’s organization of donor’s choice.

The HANLEY and Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel” and Cremation Service is handling arrangements and extends our deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to all of the Strong family and friends.
