Clinton Ray West

Jan. 12, 1948 - Aug. 7, 2008

SOUTH BEND - Clinton Ray West, 60, who was born in South Bend on January 12, 1948, passed away on August 7, 2008, in Hawthorne, California. He succumbed to an illness that had plagued him the last few years.

Clinton Ray graduated from Riley High School in 1967. A few years after graduation he decided to see other parts of the country and eventually landed in California in the mid-1970s. He loved his new-found surroundings and decided to call California home. Clinton Ray was an ambitious person and found joy in celebrating life. He was an excellent cook and was always the perfect host. Individuals seemed to gravitate towards Clinton Ray because of his great sense of humor and his "Life of the Party" style. He loved music, dancing and considered himself the "Bid Whist King." Clinton Ray also prided himself on always looking good, and never hesitated to open his heart to those who needed help.

Clinton was preceded in death by his loving mother, Annie Mae West-Vinson, and father, Silas Lee West, who are waiting to greet him. Surviving are his six brothers, Herman, Nolan, Silas, Dan, Reverend Terry J. West Sr. and Kenneth; and five sisters, Earlene R. Kilgore, Lestine W. Pettus, Maxine Heiermann, Linda A. Green and Patricia A. West.

Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15th, in Alford's Mortuary.
