Stephen John Velleman

August 4, 1953     ~     June 26, 2024

Stephen “Steve” J. Velleman, 70 years old, of Osceola, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at Memorial Hospital South Bend.

Steve was born on August 4, 1953 in Mishawaka to the late Joseph and Mary Velleman. Growing up in the South Bend area as one of six children, he enjoyed serving as an alter boy in the catholic church, graduated from Riley High School, discovered a passion for wood working, and went on to build all of his own homes. On February 25, 1984, he married Nancy Milslagle and began building his own family, something he was most proud of.

Steve worked as a production manager at BlueLinx for many years before his retirement. In his free time, he loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. There wasn’t anything that brought a bigger smile to his face or joy to his day than the sound of their little voices calling his name. He also loved animals and adored his favorite dog, Molly.

Steve is survived by his wife Nancy, three children, Paul (Kimberly) Velleman, Brian (Caley) Velleman, and Emily (Aaron) Johnson; four grandchildren, Joseph, Aiden, Elise and Harlan; Siblings Michael Velleman, Dianne Rerick, Victoria Whitten, and Linda Knapp, along with his many nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, as well as one brother, Thomas Velleman

Steve was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, “Paw Paw”, “Papa Steve”, coach, teacher, “Mr, Fix-it”, brother, Uncle, and friend. He will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all who knew him.

The family is holding a Celebration of Life in Steve’s honor on Sunday August 4, 2024 at the BK Club in Mishawaka.
