David Charles Emerson

David C. "Beaver" Emerson

August 2, 1949 ~ August 12, 2024      75 Years Old

David C. “Beaver” Emerson, a cherished husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2024, in his hometown of South Bend, where he was also born on August 2, 1949. The son of the late Lester J. and Janelle S. (Schmidt) Emerson, David carried the legacy of his parents' kindness and integrity throughout his life.

He found his lifelong partner in Patricia A. (Wood) Emerson, whom he married on his 25th birthday in 1974, in a ceremony filled with joy and hope in South Bend. Together, they nurtured a family that grew to include daughter, Laura (Ron) May of Pottsboro, TX, sons, Douglas (Rene) Emerson and Phillip (Amber) Emerson, both of South Bend. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, along with brother, Thomas L. (Jan) Emerson of Nashville, TN and his lifelong friend, Larry Omundsen.

David graduated from Riley High School in 1969 before embarking on a career marked by loyalty and hard work. He dedicated 30 years to South Bend Stamping, formerly known as Allied Stamping, and continued his professional journey at A.M. General for 12 years. Even after retirement, David's industrious spirit led him to Four Winds Casino, where he worked for an additional five years.

Beyond his professional endeavors, David was an avid gardener, finding solace and joy in the beauty of nature. His love for fishing provided him with tranquil moments by the water and stories to share with friends and family. In his younger years, David enjoyed the camaraderie and competition of bowling, a hobby that reflected his sociable and engaging personality.

David was a man who never met a stranger; he was a friend to everyone he encountered. His gift for gab was legendary, and his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone made him a beloved figure in his community. His humor and wit were as bountiful as his garden, and he was often the source of laughter and light-heartedness in any gathering. Above all, David cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. He was a jokester at heart, always ready with a playful quip or a gentle tease, and his presence was a source of joy and comfort to his family. His friendly demeanor and warm smile were the hallmarks of a life lived with generosity and an open heart.
