MISHAWAKA - Gary David Stefaniak, 66, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2014, in Homeview Health & Rehabilitation Center, Franklin, IN. He was born on May 30, 1948, in South Bend, IN, and had resided in the Michiana area his entire life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Stefaniak and Helen (Klimek) Stefaniak. Gary was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served from 1968 to 1970 at Peden Barracks in Wertheim, Germany, Headquarters Battery, 3rd Battalion, 35th Field Artillery. He was honorably discharged in April 1970 and then served in the Army Reserves until June 1975. During his lifetime he served in financial or managerial roles for several Michiana area employers including N.J.I.& Railroad, Grand Trunk Western (GTW) Employees Federal Credit Union (FCU), and Michiana Area FCU. Gary was an avid reader who also loved fishing and mushroom hunting. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors and possessed an extensive knowledge of plants and animals.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Annette of Mishawaka, IN; his daughter, Jennifer (Devin) Cook of Brookston, IN; and his son, Michael (Victoria) Stefaniak of Greenwood, IN; three grandchildren; one sister, Sally Marlephansakul of Whittier, CA; and one brother, Laniel Stefaniak of South Bend.

There will be no visitation or services as cremation has taken place. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA, www abta.org). Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, is handling the arrangements, www.jessenfuneralhome
