In Memory
Sandra Lee (Wingett) Hartman
November 5, 1948 ~ November 16, 2024
Sandra Lee (Wingett) Hartman, 76, passed away on Saturday November 16, 2024, in Sebring Florida.
Sandra was born on November 5, 1948, to the late Chester and Joanna (Yates) Hartman.
Sandy met George Hartman in 1965 at the age of 16, and they were married January 14, 1967; she was 18 years old, and George was 19. George was told he would be sent to the Army reserves during the Vietnam war on the day of his wedding, and he waited until the day after to tell Sandy.
Sandy was a self-described “tom-boy” who loved athletics and to rough house, even being a bit of a bully with her siblings. Sandy’s rough nature served her well as she was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and underwent over 150 surgeries and spent over 3 years in a hospital. She never allowed her pain or suffering to bring her down and she soldiered through it with a smile on her face.
Sandy loved to talk and spend time with her family and friends. She could always find a good reason to invite others over, whether for holidays, reunions, fish fry’s, etc. Her efforts and care were the glue that held her family and her extended family together and kept them close. She loved her family, the outdoors, fishing, gardening, church and of course; her companion, caregiver and love of her life George.
Sandy is survived by her husband of 58 years, George Hartman, her son; Allan Hartman, and her sister; Debbie Gee.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and her son; Casey Hartman, her sister; Judy Knapp, as well as her half-siblings; Darlene Nunemaker and Roger Wingett.
Memorial visitation for Sandy will be held from 10am-12pm on Saturday November 23, 2024, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend. She will be laid to rest at a later date at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.
Online condolences to the family may be sent via the Palmer Funeral Homes website at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
