Duane Charles Gardner was born in South Bend, Indiana on October 9, 1935; he was the son of Charles U. and Minna (Strom) Gardner.

He graduated from Riley High School in 1954. Duane studied at Eastern Kentucky University where he graduated in 1967 with a degree in Library Science. He worked for some years as a staffer at CTC College Library in Cincinnati.

Following his retirement, he returned to his childhood home in South Bend where he and his sister Judith cared for his mother, Minna.

He died on September 29, 2020 in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Indiana, just short of his eighty-fifth birthday.

Duane C. Gardner, 84, residing in South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday,
September 29, 2020 at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. Duane was born on October 9, 1935 in South Bend to the late Charles and Minna (Strom) Gardner.

Duane had a degree in Library Science and worked as a librarian at CTC College in Cincinnati, Ohio. Duane was a kind and gentle man with a cheerful sense of humor. He had a smile for everyone and was loved by many. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing card games, listening to music and playing the piano.

Duane is survived by his brother Jan (Celia) Gardner of Atlanta, Georgia; niece Jennifer Dixon, and great-nieces Katie, Molly, Grace and Maggie Dixon all of Manhattan, Kansas; and nephew Kevin Gardner of Atlanta, and great nephew Jacob Gardner and great niece Amelia Gardner. Also surviving is his niece, Robin (Porter) Jaworski of South Bend and great-nieces Tracy Ellen (Dan) Banacki, Jane Judith Kovach; along with great-great niece, Ava Jade Banacki.

Along with his parents Duane is preceded in death by his sister Judith A. Gardner.
Per the family wishes no services will be held at this time. Private burial will take place at
Southlawn Cemetery and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
