Robert L. "Bob" Nixon

Robert “Bob” Lee Nixon, 83, of Mishawaka passed away on Saturday evening, March 29, 2025, at Brickyard Healthcare-Fountainview Care Center. Bob was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph County, Indiana.
Bob was born on July 10, 1941, in Mishawaka, to the late Harvey E. and Gertrude (McCarter) Nixon. He graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School, South Bend. He worked as a Systems Programmer for Clark Equipment, Buchanan, Michigan, for 30 years, retiring in 1996. Once “retired” he worked for Cerney Construction for a year before taking on the role of Instructional Net Coordinator for Elkhart Community Schools for the following six years. He was an active parishioner of Corpus Christi Catholic Parish, South Bend. He was a member of the National Guard and trained as a mess sergeant at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Bob was a vintage car enthusiast, hosting annual swap meets at the St. Joseph County Fairgrounds as a member of the Pioneer Auto Association and the Cadillac LaSalle Car Club, Indiana Region. He took home several awards for his meticulously restored and maintained antique cars. He was handy and skilled in many things and never met a challenge he couldn’t conquer.
Bob married the love of his life Kathleen A. "Kathy" (Kramer) Nixon on July 22, 1967 in South Bend and they celebrated 57 years together. They spent their lives raising their children, enjoying friends and family, and supporting their community.
Bob is preceded in death by several siblings and other beloved relatives and friends.
Survivors include his wife Kathy of Mishawaka; his children Scott (Robin) Nixon of Phoenix, AZ, Teresa (Jacek) DePaul of Westminster, CO, and Paul (Michelle Wallis) Nixon of South Bend; and three (3) grandchildren: Sydney Nixon, Steven Nixon, and Jordan DePaul. Bob is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Figg of South Bend, and two brothers, Donald (Kay) Nixon of Mishawaka, and Larry Nixon of LaPorte.
A memorial visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday April 4, 2025 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday April 5, 2025 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2822 Corpus Christi Drive, South Bend. Private family burial will take place at Southlawn Cemetery.
