Joy Christine (Smith) Feltis
December 21, 1940 - October 19, 2025
Joy C. Feltis, age 84, formerly of Elkhart, IN, was welcomed to her heavenly home on Sunday morning, October 19, 2025, passing peacefully at her daughter’s home in Ft. Myers, FL. Joy was born on December 21, 1940 in South Bend, IN to Hurshell and Trellis (Thomann) Smith. She was a 1959 graduate of Riley High School. On June 4, 1960, Joy married Larry Feltis in South Bend. Together, Larry and Joy were members of the Nappanee First Brethren Church. Joy was active in the church sewing club and Women’s Missions.
She worked for many years as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant and was a devoted care giver to those she served along with her family. Above all else she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family deeply and had a silly sense of humor that never failed to ignite infectious laugher among them as well as a rolling eye or two. Joy is survived by her husband of over 65 years, Larry Feltis of Ft. Myers, FL; 2 daughters: Jody (Tom) Walker of Fort Myers, FL, Tammy (Greg) Cripe of Elkhart, IN; 6 grandchildren: Kayla Irish, Justin (Mishelle) Graber, Jordan Graber, Kaitlyn (Trevor) Hertel, Hope (Coby) Jones, and Jonathan Cripe; 14 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Beverly Hasse of Sunbury, OH. Joy was preceded in death by her daughter, Gay Feltis; her granddaughter, Faith Cripe; and her parents.
Visitation will be held for 1 hour prior to an 11 a.m. Memorial Service on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the First Brethren Church in Nappanee. Pastor Tom Schiefer will officiate, and burial will take place at Olive Cemetery.
