Norman L. Bone, known to family and friends as Norm, passed away suddenly on August 12, 2026, at his home in South Bend, Indiana, at the age of 81.

He was born on June 9, 1945, in South Bend, Indiana, a son of the late Bill F. & Florence (Pugh) Bone. Norm lived a life marked by kindness, friendship, and generosity. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, caring brother, and a respected member of his community. His steady presence and warm spirit touched many lives over the years, and he will be remembered with deep affection by all who knew him.

Norm was married to his beloved wife, Caroline (Horak) Bone, for 55 years. Together, they built a life centered on love, faith, and family. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Jay Wasson, and his cherished granddaughters, Katelyn and Lauren, who brought him great joy. He is further survived by his sister, Frances Solanki, and his brothers, William Keith Bone, Daniel (Nancy) Bone, and Mark (Tara) Bone, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Tim and Judy Bone, brother -in-law, Kamal Solanki, and sister-in-law Ruth Bone

A lifelong resident of the South Bend area, Norm attended Indiana University-South Bend and graduated from Indiana College of Mortuary Science and went on to dedicate his professional life to serving others with compassion and dignity. He worked as a funeral director for 37 years, offering comfort and guidance to countless families during some of their most difficult times. Norm retired in 2007 from Palmer Funeral Homes, but his commitment to his calling never truly ended. He continued to work part time until just two days before his death, a reflection of both his dedication and the trust he earned through years of faithful service.

Norm proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1967-1970. He attended Michiana Covenant Presbyterian Church in Granger, where he found fellowship and strength in his faith. His life was guided by the values of service, humility, and care for others. Those who knew him appreciated his gentle nature and the sincere interest he took in the lives of those around him.

Outside of his work and church life, Norm had a lifelong love for Notre Dame football. He followed the team with enthusiasm and pride, and for more than 40 years he collected memorabilia from Notre Dame football games.

He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, integrity, and steadfast love that will continue to inspire his family and friends for years to come.

Family and friends may gather from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel. Services honoring Norm's life will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan St., South Bend. Graveside services and military honors will follow at Southlawn Cemetery.
