Jane Ann (Hayes) Deranek
September 26, 1943 ~ February 26, 2025 81 Years Old
Jane Ann Deranek, a lifelong resident of South Bend, Indiana, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on September 26, 1943, to the late William and Clara Hayes, Jane's life was one of many adventures, resilience, and love, leaving a legacy of warmth and cherished memories.
Jane's journey began in the heart of South Bend, where she grew up surrounded by the love of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Deranek, Her parents, William and Clara Hayes, and her sister Patricia Blake.
She is survived by her loving children, Nancy Burket, Traci (Scott) Starkweather of Mishawaka, and Chad Deranek of South Bend. Jane's role as a grandmother was one of her greatest joys, and she will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Tiffany (Brad) Sink, William (Emily) Burket, and Keyshawn Starkweather. Also, her beloved great grandchildren, Liliana and Ivy. Her sister, Debra Grunden, and brother, Tom Hayes, will hold dear the memories of their sister's fun loving spirit and generous lifelong support.
Jane took pride in the various jobs she held throughout her life ranging from making pizzas to running leagues for card players and pool players. She was affectionately known by her favorite title “Grandma Jane” to many in the community. She was always willing to lend a hand, be a listening ear or share words of encouragement.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Jane had a passion for life's simple pleasures. She loved taking trips to any body of water all year round, to watch the waves and relax. Earlier in life, she enjoyed playing golf. She loved her crafting group that bonded over their love of creating beautiful things with their hands. The leagues she ran were not only a side hustle but a great outlet for her competitive nature and her desire to support the interests of her friends and family.
As we say goodbye to Jane Ann Deranek “Grandma Jane,” we celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the enduring impact she made on the lives of those that knew her. Her memory will live on in so many hearts, as a reminder to live each day to the fullest, eat late night cheeseburgers, love well, enjoy something sweet, and to laugh often.
