Donald B. Cruickshank

Donald Bruce Cruickshank, of Long Lake, Three Rivers, Mich., formerly of South Bend., passed away passed at 2:50 p.m. on Thursday in Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo, Mich.
Mr. Cruikshank was born on Sept. 2, 1928, in Seattle, Wash., to Bruce and Bernice (Stuffel) Cruickshank. He moved to South Bend from Seattle in the 1930s. He was a 1946 graduate of Riley High School and attended Butler University where he received his Doctorate of Pharmacy in 1950. Mr. Cruickshank worked for the Village Market Pharmacy in Dowagiac up to the time of his death and was the past owner of Tuesley Pharmacy, Reliance Pharmacy, Bushbaum's Pharmacy, Brentwood Pharmacy, Darnell Pharmacy, Don's Drug Inc. in South Bend and Dejuss Jacobs Pharmacy in Walkerton.
His first wife, Shirley Ann Riggs preceded him in death on Aug. 27, 1986. On Oct. 17, 1987, he married Katherine Mejer, who survives. He is also survived by his children, Kurt and Peggy Cruickshank of Sturgis, S.D., Michael Cruickshank of Greeley, Colo. and Terry and Marty Mersich of South Bend; grandchildren, Shawn and Cindy Cruickshank of Sturgis, Rebecca Cruickshank of Sturgis, Jodie and Corky Cruickshank both of South Bend; sisters-in-law, Alice Cheek of Simpsonville, S.C. and Nancy Gorski of Puncaw, S.C, Josephine Mayfield of Mishawaka, Ind., Maryann VanLue of Brady, Texas, Pauline Holland of South Bend and Ruth Mejer of South Bend; and by brothers-in-law, Robert Mayfield, Sr. of Mishawaka, Walter VanLue, Sr. of Brady, Doug Holland of South Bend, and Paul J. Meyer of South Bend.
Mr. Cruickshank was a member of the Indiana Board of Pharmacy, Michigan Board of Pharmacy, Indiana Pharmacy Association, Indiana Pharmacists Alliance, National Rifle Association, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, St. Joseph Lodge 45 F&AM, Murat Temple and South Bend York Rite Chapter 29.
He was a loving husband, wonderful father and enjoyed fishing, hunting, casino gambling and a good game of poker with his friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix* Drive. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Three Rivers, Mich. or to the American Heart Association
