ST. JOSEPH - Willis F. Koontz, 54, of 1885 Acorn, St. Joseph, formerly of South Bend, died at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday in Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo, after an extended illness. He was the principal of the Upton Junior High School in St. Joseph. He was born on Aug. 12, 1927, in South Bend.
His wife, Norma Maxwell, survives along with two daughters, Lynn Koontz of Indianapolis and Patricia Koontz, at home; a son, Tony, at home; a sister, Mrs. William (Josephine) Magee of Baton Rouge, La., and a brother, William Koontz of South Bend.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in St. Joseph with Rev. Dale Brown, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may call today at the and Starks Funeral Home, 802 Main St., St. Joseph.
He was a graduate of Ball State University and the University of Michigan. He was a St. Joseph Twp. trustee, was a member of the Elks Lodge 541, the National Blue Key Honor Society. He served on the Planned Parenthood Association board and was a board member of LINK.
