Shirley Ann Lomatsch

Shirley Ann Lomatsch, 78, residing in South Bend, passed away at 9:01 pm Tuesday, January 3, 2017 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. She was born February 26, 1938 in McMinnville, TN to the late Richard T. and Hassie (Reed) Howard.

On February 12, 1960 in South Bend, Shirley married the love of her life, Richard E. Lomatsch, who after 56 years of marriage and being best friends, survives her. She is also survived by daughters, Barbara Brugh of South Bend and Sandra (Keith) Mengel of Marshall, MI; five grandchildren, Ryan, Natalie and Jarrod Brugh and Colin and Lauren Mengel; one great grand-daughter, Jocelyn Brugh; and two sisters, Dorothy (Jack) Schuck of Niles and Linda (Michael) Tezich of Elkhart. She was preceded in death by another sister, Mary E. Olson.

Shirley was a longtime member of the Church of Christ. Spending time with her family and grandchildren was important to Shirley. She loved taking care of others, never wanting to be the center of attention. She made all feel welcome and loved, thus channeling her love of Christ to others. Shirley loved the years she was able to be a homemaker, taking care of her loved ones. She was a receptionist at Grady’s Hair Salon in South Bend, from which she retired in 1998 after 18 years. She enjoyed walking on the beaches of Lake Michigan, especially in Arcadia, where she had many friends, and she and Richard kept a camper. Shirley also enjoyed shopping at Macy’s, cooking and baking.

Funeral services for Shirley will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, January 7, 2017 in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. Graveside services and burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon on Saturday in the funeral home prior to services.
