Marion J. Kasznia

July 12, 1966 - Oct. 6, 2001

Marion John Kasznia, 35, of Marquette Avenue in South Bend, Ind., died on Saturday, Oct. 6, in Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 12, 1966, in South Bend, and was a lifelong resident. 

Mr. Kasznia served his community for the past 11 years as a police officer (corporal) on the South Bend Police Department.

He is survived by his fiancée, Lisa D. Cataldo of South Bend; his parents, Robert W. and Eva Mae (Pavich) Kasznia of South Bend; two sons, Quinn and Seth Kasznia, both of South Bend; his prospective four stepchildren, Anthony, Alexandra, Dominic and Gabrielle Cataldo, all of South Bend; two sisters, Michelle Smith of South Bend and Denise (Brad) Kissinger of South Bend; three nieces, Jessie, Jenny and Julie Smith, all of South Bend; and by three nephews, Justin Smith, Chad and Zach Kissinger, all of South Bend.

Mr. Kasznia loved being a dad to his two sons and prospective four stepchildren. He also loved being a police officer. He was an active member of F.O.P. Lodge #36 and its wage negotiation committee.

Marion had a passion for martial arts and enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He belonged to Sumption Prairie Methodist Church. Marion was a 1984 graduate of Riley High School, attended Bethel College, and Ivy Tech State College where he graduated with a degree in computer science. He graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1992-109.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in the funeral home, with Pastor Charles Ternet officiating. A memorial service will be conducted by F.O.P. Lodge 36 following services. Cremation will follow.
