Cherrie Kay (Poland) Smith

Cherrie Kay Smith, 48, of 3828 Glenview Drive, died at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday in Osteopathic Hospital after a two-week illness. She was employed by the South Bend Community School Corp. For the past 18 years, and most recently with the recreation department. She was born on Feb. 3, 1934, in South Bend, and was as lifelong area resident.

On Oct 29, 1954, in South Bend, she married L. Thomas Smith, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Deborah R. Sherwood of Mishawaka; a son, David T. of South Bend; her mother, Mrs. Alietha D. Poland of South Bend; three grandchildren; and a brother, Jay L. Poland of South Bend.

She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian hurch, an elder and financial secretary of the church, secretary of the protestant Women's Bowling League, and secretary of the School Women's Bowling League.
