Shirley A (Frazier) Gearhart

March 6, 1929 - Oct. 21, 2001

Shirley A. Gearhart, 72, of Catherwood Drive, passed away in Memorial Hospital after fighting a courageous battle against cancer.

Shirley was born March 6, 1929, in Yorktown, Ind., to the late Eugene and Jessie (Denney) Frazier. Living here most of her life, Shirley married Jack D. Gearhart on Oct. 28, 1950, who preceded her in death in January 2001. Shirley was a homemaker most of her life, taking great pride in her children.

She is survived by her daughter, Jackie Gearhart of South Bend, Ind.; a son, Kevin (Cindy) Gearhart of Granger, Ind.; two grandchildren, Ashley and Christopher; two sisters, Dorothy Stoler of Haverhill, Mass., and Charlotte (LaMarr) Moon of Erie, N.D.; and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Jack; her twin brother, Paul Frazier; a brother, Robert Frazier; and by a sister, Margary Frazier.

Shirley was proud to have coached junior bowling for the American Junior Bowling Congress at both the Regal and Chippewa Bowling Lanes. She was also the city secretary for the Junior Bowling Congress for over 15 years. She was inducted in the South Bend/Mishawaka Women's Bowling Hall of Fame in 1985. Shirley was a person who took great pride working with children, teaching them how to bowl and to be good people. Shirley was a graduate of Riley High School, class of '47.

Visitation for Mrs. Gearhart will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend, IN 46614. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m.Thursday in the funeral home, with burial in Southlawn Cemetery.

Donations in Mrs. Gearhart's name may be made to the American Lung Association.
