Bertha (Atwood) Garner, 74, of Michigan City, Ind., formerly of South Bend, passed away on Friday, Dec. 6, 1996, at 1:59 p.m. at St. Anthony Hospital in Michigan City. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. (CST) on Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Michigan City with Rev. Linda Skaggs and Rev. Kenneth Hunn officiating. Entombment of ashes will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. (EST) at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call at Carlisle Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday and on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Bertha (Atwood) Garner was born Dec. 2, 1922, in Logansport, Ind., the daughter of Walter Atwood and Inez Harding.
On March 10, 1946, in South Bend, she married Robert E. Garner who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Nancy (Rev. Kenneth) Hunn of Nappanee, Ind., and Carol (Jeff) Keppen of Fort Smith, Ark.; five grandchildren; four sisters, Carol Kinzie, Jeanne Parfitt and Joy (Sal) Weiss, all of South Bend and Betty (Russell) Poole of Mishawaka; and a brother, John (Jeweleen) Atwood of Marion, Ky.
Mrs. Garner was a homemaker and lived in Michigan City for 39 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and of the First Presbyterian Church Prime Timers. She also was a graduate of Riley High School of South Bend.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund.
