Avis "Jean" Hall Cole

April 29, 1923 — Aug. 24, 2011 MISHAWAKA — Jean Cole, 88, of Greeneville, TN, formerly of Mishawaka, IN, died this morning, Aug. 24th, in her home.

Mrs. Cole was born April 29, 1923, in South Bend, IN.

She was a charter member of the Elkhart Symphony and was honored at a concert in 1973 for being the oldest living member of the organization. She enjoyed working with children and taught private music lessons for many years out of her home.

Mrs. Cole was a longtime, active member of the Friendship Sunday School Class at the East United Methodist Church in Mishawaka. She sang in the choir, rang doorbells, and served on various committees for several years. She was faithful to the Dial-a-Care Program, a shut-in ministry, and was a leader in the Women's Circle Group. She was a loving mother and wife, and is remembered by her family and friends as one who always tried to bring comfort to others. In 2001, she and her husband of 65 years moved to Greeneville to live with their daughter and her family.

Mrs. Cole is survived by her 2 sons, Randall Allen Cole and his wife, Laura preRanee Swafford-Cole of Redondo Beach, CA, and Bradford Dwight Cole and Jean of his wife, Ellen Roebuck-Cole one Jacqueline CO; Englewood, daughter, (Jackie) Dee Love and her husband, Shane Lloyd Love of Greeneville; and five grandchildren, Daniel Adam Cole, Kenneth Palmer Cole, and Suzanne Jean Cole of Redondo Beach, Kristen Olivia Love and Aaron Keicher Love of Greeneville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Palmer Drisko Cole Jr.; her parents, Asa Dwight Hall and Avis Ruth Grossman Hall, originally of South Bend, but retiring in Santa Monica, CA; and a sister, Betty Ann Hall Naessens, originally of South Bend and then Santa Monica.
