Babette Morton Beckman, 44, of 1326 Leeper Ave., prominent civic leader, died at 3 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

She was born on July 26, 1922, in Dowagiac, and was graduated from Riley High School in 1941.

On May 30, 1942, in South Bend, she was married to Frederick S. Beckman, an associate professor of art at the University of Notre Dame, who survives. Also surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Morton, South Bend; a son, Frederick Beckman Jr., at home, and a brother, Robert Morton, of Dowagiac.

Mrs. Beckman was past president of the Service Guild of South Bend and the Ladies of Notre Dame.

Friends may call at the Hickey Funeral Home. Services were today in Sunnyside Pres. byterian Church, Rev. Paul E. Chalfant, pastor, officiating. Entombment was in Riverview Mausoleum
