Cecelia "Betty" Wigent, 77, of Mishawaka, Ind., died peacefully on Monday, Oct. 23, in her home. Betty was born on Aug.
1, 1923, in South Bend, Ind., to the late Walter and Edna Slauson. On June 1, 1941, she married Maurice D. Wigent in Mishawaka. He passed away on Jan. 11, 1992.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Virgina Gentner; and by a grandson, Daniel Pierce. She survived by her sons, Dennis (Sally) Wigent of Grand Rapids, Mich., Darrell (Leona) Wigent of Granger, Ind., and Donald (Vicky) Wigent of South Bend; and by a brother, Wayne (Ouida) Slauson of Westville, Fla. Also left to share her loving memory are her grandchildren, Dennise Trethewey, Brett Wigent, Tamara Quinian, Brian Wigent, Brad Wigent, Christopher (Karen) Wigent, Stephanie (James) Pierce and Erin Wigent; and three greatgrandchildren, Kristin Trethewey, James Pierce and Timothy Wigent.
Betty retired from the Selmer Company of Elkhart, Ind., in 1983. Betty's first love was her family and friends. She also had a deep faith and was very active at the First Baptist Church of Mishawaka. She was involved with many activities at her church, including the Sow and Reap group, Bible Study, and she was also a member of the choir. Betty graduated from Riley High School, and was an active member of the Riley lunch bunch. Family and friends will cherish the memory of her caring nature and her ever-present smile. Her concern for others was a wonderful example to us all. We miss you, but will always carry your loving memory in our hearts.
We welcome family and friends for visitation from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 25, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Mishawaka
