Iva (Bare) Freund

July 15, 1918 - May 19, 1998

Mrs. Iva Bare Freund, 79, of 1146 Shady Shores Drive, Niles, Mich., died following an extended illness at 4:15 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, at her home. She was born on July 15, 1918, at North Liberty, Ind., to Evan E. and Daisy Izora (Edison) Bare, and was a lifetime resident of Niles.

She had also lived in Vicksburg, Mich., and later moved to South Bend, Ind. Mrs. Freund retired in 1981 after 15 years of service with Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Mich. She loved to garden, knit, sew, embroider, and also enjoyed entertaining guests.

On June 22, 1940, in South Bend, she married George R. Freund, who preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Gail L. Christensen, who died on Oct. 27, 1997.

She is survived by her daughters, Virginia Brawley and Georgia Stull of Niles; a son, George R. Freund, Jr., of Vicksburg, Mich.; 10 grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren; and by a sister, Florence V. Hill of Niles.

Funeral services for Mrs. Freund will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Halbritter Funeral Home, with the Reverend LaRae Rutenbar of Trinity Episcopal Church in Niles officiating. Interment will be in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Freund may be made to Hospice at Home
